*TUNE OF THE WEEK*

This is a perfect example of broken joy, sounds like there’s some casio magic going on. Also, there’s time and tempo change which floors me every time, plus its a beautiful song by a beautiful mind. Well done Gruff , got nothing but love for ya.

Love this: Little Dragon’s “Little Man”

This track is so understated its refreshing as fuck! Plus her voice reminds me of Horace Andy, which is always a great thing. And the more I hear of

her the more I love her !

*** TUNE OF THE WEEK *** Azealia Banks “212″

A producer friend of mine, Roy Kidgloves, showed me this tune on Friday last week and it blew my mind. I reckon it’s gonna be massive in the clubs, if it isn’t already. There are some people who just exude charisma and I think Azealia is one of them. Her rapping is sick plus when she sings she takes it one higher. Not only that but the production is really minimal but so effective. In short this is a perfect club record that will probably cross over with a little word of mouth… and the fact it’s a bit controversial!

Unfortunately the video has been taken offline! Nowhere to be found. But go on iTunes and listen to the free Turntable Kitchen podcast entitled Single Serving Azealia Banks 212.

Love this: “Midnight City” by M83

This track reminds me of some great 80′s synth pop but somehow it still sounds so of the moment. Don’t know much about them but can’t wait to hear more stuff!

Love this: The Rapture “In The Grace of Your Love”

I’m so impressed with The Rapture’s comeback album and this tune is sublime. It seems Zdar has taken them to a new level, especially with the vocal style, which is just so much better than it used to be. So after losing a member, splitting up and then reforming, The Rapture are back!

* TUNE OF THE WEEK * The Whip’s “Secret Weapon”

Here’s a tune I wish I wrote. Its perfect lyrics and stunning baseline show how bands making dance music should be doing it! Plus they are incredible live. Their album is in the shops today and it’s all killer no filler!

Love this: REM’s “Daysleeper”

Sad news that REM have split today. Here’s a reminder of how class they were and why they won’t be forgotten. This song is art, poetry and pop all at once and it’s sublime.

REM , RIP x

Love this: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros “Home”

This reminds me of the sort of tune that Jonny Cash and his wife June would have done as a duet in there heyday. I like the “Jacksonne” bit – they’ve taken it to a new place and the vocals are like a real love affair between the singers. God I hope they are husband and wife cos I’m a believer!

Love this: Neon Indian “Polish Girl”

I love Neon Indian! His keyboard sounds are amazing on this track and the song’s wicked too. My good friend Timmy Bran mixed it so for me it’s an all round smash and an exciting new sound.

*TUNE OF THE WEEK*: Friends “I’m His Girl”

Don’t know much about this band but I guessed they were from New York with this sound…and I was right. They’re from Brooklyn.

I love the vocals and I think it’s a bit like CSS but much better. Good to hear this kinda bass sound coming back – overall retro cool but still great! Check it here: Friends \’I\’m His Girl\’
